The African Networking Group of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ANGASABE) was founded in 2009 at ASABE’s Annual International Meeting in Reno, Nevada.

The idea of ANGASABE as a community of ASABE started in 2008 when a group African agricultural, biological, and food engineering academics in Africa, United States and Canada met at the Annual International Meeting in Providence, Rhode Island, USA. Those academics sought to create a exchange forum with three objectives: (1) develop a forum for Africans attending ASABE annual international meetings to meet at the meeting; (2) develop a network of Africans in ASABE to share of ideas and develop collaborations and; (3) develop a relationship between ASABE and the corresponding organizations or associations in African countries. The following year, Drs. Folarin Alonge, Luc Hebou and Israel Dunmade were given the mandate to serve as the first executive board of the organization. At the same meeting, committees were formed to draft the first constitution and bylaws.
Over the years, our organization welcomed new motivated members and expanded its programs, continuously striving to meet its founding objectives and its mission as stated below.

We have initiated our Annual Africa, India and China Joint Session in 2017. This joint session is co-organized with the Association of Agricultural, Biological and Food Engineers of Indian Origin (AABFEIO) and the Association of Overseas Chinese Agricultural, Biological, and Food Engineers (AOCABFE) and is co-sponsored by ASABE’s Global Exchange (E-2050) committee. We have also initiated ANGASABE’s Annual Award of Excellence to recognizes exemplary dedication to agricultural, biological, and food engineering, and technology development in Africa, and service to enhancing the image of the Association internationally.

As we continue our journey and fulfill our mission and goals, we welcome you to ANGASABE and encourage you to get involved as we work to promote and facilitate the exchange and dissemination of agricultural, biological, and food engineering knowledge to support sustainable agriculture development in Africa.
