About Dr. Deandrea Smith
Dr. Deandrea Smith’s research focuses on developing transformative radiant heating technologies—Infrared, Microwave (MW), and Radio Frequency (RF) systems—to enhance food processing by:
- Optimizing Quality and Safety: Ensuring high-quality, safe, nutritious food products.
- Addressing Global Challenges: Tackling food security, sustainability, and environmental impact.
- Innovating Holistic Solutions: Integrating social, economic, environmental, and health perspectives to create resilient food systems.
As the leader of the Product and Process Engineering Lab (PROPEL) at Purdue University, Dr. Smith is dedicated to advancing these technologies while aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established by the United Nations (UN) in 2015 to improve global food systems and public health.
