About Dr. Mobolaji O. Omobowale
Dr Mobolaji Oluyimika Omobowale is a COREN registered Agricultural Engineer with over 20 years of experience in the field. An alumnus of the University of Ibadan, he bagged his PhD degree in Agricultural and Environmental Engineering in 2014. He has been a recipient of national and international awards among which are the John D and Catherine T. MacArthur Grant for research in 2009 and the prestigious Robert S. McNamara Fellowship of the World Bank (2010/2012 Cycle).
He was an Exchange Scholar at the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, Rutgers University, New Jersey, U.S.A. in 2009/2010 and a Visiting Scientist to the Centre for Grain and Animal Health Research, Manhattan, Kansas in 2012. He was also part of the team of experts invited to consider the “Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)-SREX report for West Africa entitled: ‘Managing the Risks of Extreme Events and Disasters to Advance Climate Change Adaptation’ held in Dakar Senegal in 2012. He is a member of many professional bodies among which are the Nigerian Institution of Agricultural Engineers, Nigerian Society of Engineers, and the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineering.
A recipient of the “Presidential Merit Award of the International Commission of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering” in 2020, Dr. Omobowale is a consultant to a number of agro-allied companies and currently serves as the National President of the Stored Agricultural Commodities Initiative (SACI), a NGO registered in Nigeria with a mission to reduce postharvest losses, and improve food security and food safety through need-based research and capacity building. He was the Principal Investigator for the US-Nigeria Project on Stored Commodities (2015-2020); an effort arising from a collaboration between the Federal Government of Nigeria and the United States of America, aimed at food security in Nigeria; funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and administered through the USDA-Foreign Agricultural Service. In 2023, he elected as the Vice President of the African Network Group of the American Society for Agricultural and Biological Engineers.
Dr. Omobowale is an Associate Professor at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria where he teaches courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the Design of Agricultural Structures, Soil and Water Conservation methods, Climate Smart Agriculture, Agricultural Mechanization, Environmental Engineering, Agricultural Systems Analysis, Postharvest Engineering, Greenhouse Engineering and Pollution Control among others. He is also actively engaged in community service and youth empowerment. He is married to Mrs. Folasade Omobowale and their union is blessed with good children.
